Aero Club Competitions and Awards

In addition to pilot training, the North Shore Aero Club is very active in promoting recreational flying events. One example of this is competition flying. Competitions are great fun and extend the opportunity to hone ones skills, be it in a landing competition (most accurate landing onto a spot), navigation, bombing, life raft dropping, aerobatics or a host of other competitions.

There are two main types of competition held at the North Shore Aero Club. The first is internal and involves no input from members of other aero clubs. The second is external competitions, in which representatives from our aero club compete against members from other aero clubs (for example the Auckland Aero Club). In addition, there are competitions which are sanctioned by the Royal New Zealand Aero Club (RNZAC) which are run at both regional and national level. Selected winners also have the opportunity to compete against Australian aviators in the annual trans Tasman "Wings" competition. Information relating to these events can be viewed at the RNZAC web site.

Awards are also given for achievements other than those related to competitions. One example of such an award is the Don Andrew Trophy, awarded for distinguished airmanship and flight safety.

Competition entry forms are available at the NSAC office.
