NSAC Young Eagles

Have you ever wondered what it's like to fly?

As a Young Eagle member you will get the opportunity to experience flying for yourself.

You will have the opportunity to actually fly in an aircraft, experience how it works and look down on the world below from inside the safety of an aircraft.

Does this sound exciting to you? Would you like to enjoy this wonderful experience? You can, because this is an invitation to you to take to the skies and become a member of the Flying NZ Young Eagles.

Contact your local Aero Club and they will welcome you into their programme. You will be given a Young Eagles registration form, please make sure that you fill it in correctly and don't forget to get your parents/guardians to sign the permission form. You must be between the ages of 9 and 17.

Return the form to your Aero Club. They will introduce you to their co-ordinator and to a pilot who has been given special permission to conduct your flight. Your Special Pilot has been chosen because he or she is a very safe and competent pilot.

As you advance in Young Eagles you might become eligible for a $2000 flight training scholarship.

Civil Aviation Authority Young Eagles Information

The CAA's safety partnership with the RNZAC introduces young people to the world of aviation in a positive and safe environment, with the expectation that some may become part of the aviation community, for recreation, or as a profession.

A major milestone for Young Eagle participants is going for a flight with a designated aero club member. These flights are conducted at no cost to the Young Eagles and are often the participant's first flight. They receive a certificate at the time of this flight, and a Young Eagles log in which they record their flights, aviation related visits, and activities.

Annual Young Eagles Program

Each year the North Shore Aero Club runs a 4 month 'Young Eagles' program from September to December. The program is for 14 to 17 year old girls and boys to have flight experiences and learn about the many opportunities within recreational and commercial aviation.

During the Young Eagles program you will experience:Flights with club members in 2 and 4 seat aircraft. Hands on Flights in training aircraft with North Shore Flight Instructors. See and learn about some of New Zealand's historic aircraft. Visit an air traffic control tower. Go on an escorted tour of Whenuapai Air Base. Glider flights with instructors. Learn what it takes to become a recreational or commercial pilot.

Young Eagles also have the opportunity to compete for one of 6 Flying NZ, scholarships worth $2000 for flight training at North Shore Aero club.

Most activities are on Sundays and take either a half or full day. A program sheet will be provided at the introductory day on Sunday 21 September showing dates and times for all the planned activities.

During August and September we will recruit 12 young eagles. To be eligible for selection you must not have had any flight training or be the son or daughter of an aero club Member.
