About North Shore Aero Club

Our club members have been building their own airfield with volunteer labour since 1963. It is now rated the third most important airfield in the greater Auckland region.

Our simple mission statement is to foster all types of aviation services for commercial, private and student aviators, and aviation enthusiasts. There are approximately 150 aircraft of various types now based on the airfield and the number is increasing. It is not surprising the airfield is attracting new aircraft, as we believe it is located in one of the best flying environments in New Zealand.

The pleasure of flying in uncongested skies while enjoying the beauty of the Waitemata Harbour and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf makes this one of the most enjoyable training areas in New Zealand. Add to that our excellent reputation for training, safety, and competition success, and you have the perfect place to learn to fly.

North Shore Aero Club owns and operates the North Shore Airfield from which our operations are based. We have excellent facilities for training. We run regular club competitions and compete very successfully at regional and national levels.

The club member's official annual function is the Wings Dinner, where competition trophies and prizes are presented and graduating pilots are presented with their wings. This event is the highlight of the annual social calendar for the aero club. This and all our additional recreational and competition flying, is something which sets us apart from a standard flying school.

Training

North Shore Aero Club has adopted a professionally designed flight-training curriculum based on traditional methods of flight training and CAA Part 61 requirements.

The student is paired with one of our Flight Instructors and begins each lesson with an individual briefing in one of the special briefing rooms. The briefing will detail the flying lesson for that day with special attention to the expected goals of the lesson (The flying lessons are explained in the "Private Pilot Training Guide").

When the flight has been completed the Instructor will debrief the student, the lesson will be examined and the student's ability to fly the lesson will be discussed.

It is important to us that flying is enjoyable for our students. We also encourage students to continue after their training and broaden their aviation experience as much as possible.
